Could the man I hate be the
perfect match I need?
I’m Jules Kelly, a certified
bohemian boss babe, whose hip tech company just won subsidized office space in
the coolest co-working space in town. From a distance I seem poised to take
over the world (or at least the travel industry), and I would be if it weren’t
for two big complications:
1. A rare and seriously
inconvenient disease is tanking my health by the day, and my only hope for a
cure—a transplant—is moving further from my grasp.
2. A soulless database company
is sharing my new office space, and its coldly gorgeous, judgmental, CEO is on
a path to world dominance (at least in his mind).
Tom Davenport represents the
very worst of bro culture in the start-up world. Naturally, we despise each
other.
The thing is, as much as Tom's
antagonism annoys me, he has an uncanny ability to conjure up my fighting
spirit and vitality at a time when my illness is robbing me of both. I'm drawn
to him in ways I can't (or would really rather not) understand.
A mysterious angel investor
forces our companies to compete for a life-changing amount of money just when
my relationship with Tom becomes infinitely more complicated. To make matters
worse, things get cutthroat just as my time starts to run out.
In order to survive, I must
decide if I can truly trust my most unlikely ally of all.
REVIEW
Thank you NetGalley and Laura for
the book!
The reason I pick this book is
because I want to try to read the book when the main character is diagnosed
with a disease, a rare one in this book. As long as I remember, this would be
my first book with this kind of situation and I nervous with how the story
would progress. Can I get my happy ending or what?
Jules needs this co-working place
for her team to work but it means she needs to meet Tom every day. She doesn’t
like Tom who demeaning her team because all of them are women except for Alan,
her best friend. Since then, it always bickering surround them. But Jules cannot
lie to herself that there is something in Tom that can make her feel more alive
than she is now with this disease corrupt her every day.
I LOVE JULES SO MUCH! She got
this disease but don't make this a reason for her to give up in life. To live
she need transplant, but it is not easy to get them because there are many
people out there need it too. One of the easiest things is to get living
transplant but no, no one want to give a small piece of their liver to her. I
feel sorry for her situation, but I also admired how she still doing her best
to make their company grow, to make her best friend out from his bad situation
and how she survived alone with no one knows her disease except Alan and her
family.
Let me tell you how much anger I
have when I read about her family. I never use bad word such F* or B* to
express my feeling when I annotate my book but every single time “this” family
appear, surely this kind of word appear from me. I frustrated. I was angry. If
I was in Jules conditions, I don’t know how to survive life when I have a
family like her. Their what you called Toxic family, didn’t even care with Jules’s
disease, not helping at all of course and they treat her like a broken thing, not
a person but a thing. I never understand the way their thinking, how could
family become like that. It seems that instead of Jules I'm the one crying
here. I really hate them. Oh My God, when writing this review, I become angry
again.
Fortunately, Jules has Alan who
always stay with her. Even when she in the lowest. I really love Alan. He is so
soft and one of the best friend I ever read. Support Jules no matter what,
being her only family and always ready when Jules needs him. And of course, Tom
is coming to Jules’s life. He also incredible. The thing he did for her is
amazing. Yes, he such a brat at first but after that he slowly change into a
better person. After I know the back story of Tom, it becomes make sense the
way he behaves toward Jules.
I always love Jules and Tom
bickering at first and how they interact to each other like there’s magnet
between them. They have a beautiful relationship. At some point, I know what
kind of plot the author trying to make but I still enjoy my read. One thing I
can not relate is how fast Jules changing. I never know about sick person
mental so I can’t relate to whatever thing Jules do for her, Tom, and their
relationship. When I read this part, I feel like Jules (or author) just want to
create a problem. I can’t understand at all about the feeling Jules trying to
tell me but I think nearly end I slowly understand because the author kindly to
tell us about Jules feelings.
I learn so much from this book.
How hard it is for transplant patients to wait for the donor. How they need to be
patient if it is not their turn to get this transplant. I learn their feelings
when people slowly stay away from them. I cry multiple times when I saw what
Jules must be face. How much pain Jules had to feel and how strong Alan when he
has to see it everyday but doing nothing.
So, how about Jules? Did she get
her happy ending? Well, I strongly suggest to read this book as soon as
possible 😆
I rate this book 4/5 ⭐
want to give 5 but because I can’t understand the way of conflict
turn at one point, I just decrease it a little. But I still LOVE this book so much
and really recommend to you all! If you want to read a little bit of enemies to
lovers, main character with strong mind even though she's sick, beautiful
friendship, you really need to read this!
