BLURB

Theo Silva. Rowdy bull rider. Notorious ladies’ man. Scorching hot trouble wrapped up in a drool-worthy package.

And he’s looking at me like I might be his next meal.

But I’m almost free of my toxic marriage and have sworn off men entirely. So all I see when I look back is temptation served up with a heaping side of heartbreak.

The man is hard to trust—and even harder to resist.

Make that impossible. Because Theo is persistent. And no matter how hard I try to freeze him out, he melts my icy exterior and pulls apart all my defenses.

Over a drink in a small town bar, I blurt out my deepest, darkest secrets. Then I spend the singular hottest night of my life with him.

He worships my body. He makes me blush. I come alive beneath his hands.

Then I tell him to forget it ever happened. I want simple, and with him it all feels complicated.

It was supposed to be a one-time thing.

A secret.

But that little plus sign is going to make this secret impossible to keep.

REVIEW

This is my second book from Elsie Silver. I read Heartless before and yes I love it. This Chestnut Springs series is more of interconnected series where all the characters known each other and show up on the other books before they became the main characters. I kind of randomly choose the book because I just read based on my mood at that time and yes I skip the first and the third book of this series. So when I got to read this book, there’s some of confusion, especially with Winter and Summer relationship because obviously I didn’t read the book about Summer.

I choose this book because of how tiktok suddenly decided to recommend this book over and over. I’m not really familiar with surprise baby trope so I don’t have any expectation while reading this book. This book also has reverse sunshine x grumpy trope which I rarely see in a book.

Winter is married but not happy. Winter is a doctor but can’t enjoy her job because of her mother. She decide to go to Chestnut Spring to go far away from everything that hurts her and to fix her relationship with Summer, her only sister. Here she met Theo, a bull rider that give her “life”. They decided it one time only but this plan is not going well and Winter must accept new life coming to her.

The real winner that hook me to this book is Theo. He describe as “playboy” but everything he did to Winter is awesome. Winter is hard and known as Ice Queen, but after everything that happen to her I kind of understand why she become like that. I understand why she can’t believe to everything Theo give to her because she never got it from anyone else. But I love how Theo slowly show his love and care for Winter, when he gave Winter time and space she needs to decide their new status as parent. Maybe in the middle I kind of annoyed how stubborn Winter is but it is still understandable.

The conflict itself come from Rob, Winter ex husband that always disturb Winter and finally make it a bigger conflict between Winter and Theo. But I love how the author resolve it. Because of this conflict we see how develop Winter character is. When I thought the conflict will dragged on but it is not. In this book we will also see the development between Summer and Winter relationship, how they resolve their problem from the past.

Winter and Theo has a good relationship. They work together as Vivi parent. I love how Theo not upset because he suddenly has a daughter but because he missed the pregnancy and 9 months of his daughter life. Theo really has a different image than I imagine. I thought he would be awkward with baby but he is so good with Vivi. The way Theo care for Winter and Vivi is superb! I just wish to see more of Theo and Vivi moment when she more grow up.

Te vivo.
It’s better than “I love you”.
It’s more accurate.
It’s us.

We got dual POV from Theo and Winter, so we really know what their thinking. No unnecessary drama and unfinished conflict. I think if you want to read this book it would be better to read Flawless first, the story of Summer because it can make you lost a moment from Winter and Summer relationship. But for me who skip it, it still work well just read this book. I give this book 4/5 ⭐! For you who love secret baby, reverse sunshine x grumpy, small town romance you will love this book!
